And this is what it is about:

With audio description blind and visually impaired people can experience audio-visual content. Optical information is transferred to a spoken text, while the acoustic information remain unchanged. Therefore audio description can be located within Translation Studies. This book presents the Audio Description Evolution Model ADEM which systematises the special interplay of sound and image and provides a methodology with an action-oriented sequence of steps that can be used in daily practice.

The author:

Bernd Benecke is the head of Audio-Description at Bayerischer Rundfunk – the only broadcaster in Germany with an Audio-Description Editor. BR is one of the main producers of AD for German TV, DVDs and cinema.

Bernd Benecke started with Audio Description in 1989 when the first movie was described in Germany. He worked as an Audio Description author and narrator for movie distributors, different TV-stations and since 1997 for Bayerischer Rundfunk, where he built up the AD department. Today he mainly trains the authors, revises Audio Descriptions and directs the narrating and sound mixing process. He is one of the authors of the German Audio Description guidelines and headed workshops in countries around the world (Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Brazil).
